In our setup we use the Active RMA agent running on a PC inside the network reporting back to central Hostmonitor server.
we have been trying to setup the Action for when a service needs a restart. for instance we have a test that will monitor the win32time service. if the test fails 2 times, we have the action setup to try and start the service. How do we tell the RMA agent to tell the server to restart the service ?
When host monitor was inside the network, all of these features worked great, but this active RMA agent setup to a central box seem to have many limitations.
thanks

RMA Agent - wont restart services on monitored server
Re: RMA Agent - wont restart services on monitored server
Each action has "Execute by" property. Select the RMA agent or set "Test performer" option there. That's it.How do we tell the RMA agent to tell the server to restart the service ?
Of course, HostMonitor and RMA are 2 different programs with different purpose and different set of options, as described in the manual. E.g. HostMonitor offers 36 alert methods. RMA for Windows just 15but this active RMA agent setup to a central box seem to have many limitations.

But if we are talking about actions like Start service, Stop service, Restart service, HostMonitor and RMA works the same way.
You just need to set everything correctly (e.g. use account with necessary rights).

Re: RMA Agent - wont restart services on monitored server
I wish I could attach a screenshot of the setup , but were limited to 256kb. we have the checkbox to connect as the domain admin; but nothing happens on the remote machine. somethings still missing. i double checked the RMA agent checkboxes for things like restart service, start service, reboot , etc. and then restarted the RMA agent service; but no go. thanks for responding.
Re: RMA Agent - wont restart services on monitored server
98% of customers contact us by e-mail, there is no 256K limitation on attachments.
Just use menu Help->Support.
There are many ways to check the logs
1) System log - use menu View->System log (HostMonitor or RCC started on HostMonitor system)
2) Quick Log page - use menu View->Quick Log (HostMonitor or RCC started on any system)
Note 1: Quick Log pane may work in 3 different modes:
- Show test results
- Show actions
- Show test results and actions
Note 2: If you select specific test in Test Details pane, HostMonitor will display latest actions triggered by this test only. If no test is selected, folder item is selected or several test items are selected, HostMonitor will display actions triggered by all test items within current folder, sorting actions by time of execution.
Note 3: you may tell HostMonitor to ignore some actions, i.e. do not store information about action results in Quick Log. The option "Quick Log: store action results" is located in Action Properties dialog.
3) Test Info window, e.g. select test, press Ctrl+I (or use popup menu), go to Quick Log: triggered actions
4) Recent Events window (HostMonitor or RCC: menu View -> Recent events)
5) Auditing Tool - menu View as well. It may detect various problems and shows recent syslog messages as well
Also please check the following topic

Sometimes people just stop monitoring or disable alerts and wonder why nothing works.
Often profile is set to start actions only when test status changes (Ok->Bad) and does not repeat after consecutive failures.
and so on
