RCC client for iPhone

Post by terje »

There is an application for the iPhone called "Hostmonitor" writen by Bonex Data Systems. It does basic ping, smtp, ftp style tests direct from the iPhone. It is good for basic testing but obviously it can't penetrate firewalls and tell you the internal status of the corporate network (unless you're in the office connected via wi-fi). However it got me thinking that it would be really great to have an app on the iPhone that could connect back to the corporate network (through an open TCP port and authenticated via a password) and hook into the Hostmonitor system writen by KS-Soft and then provide a simplified RCC style interface giving an overview of the corporate network status.

Perhaps the existing fascility to provide status via a HTML page could achieve this result. If so I'd be interested to hear from anybody that is using this to check network status on their iPhone or other mobile device.

That would be nice, we could really use an app for the droid. The email alerts are helpfull, but being able to pull up a working list on the phone would be great.

We haved used the web interface when necessary.

We do not plan to port entire RCC on iPhone.
If you need simple interface that allow you to check status of all tests and perform some basic operations, you may use Web Service.

Other commands can be performed thru telnet client and Telnet Service

BTW: telnet allows you to start HM Scripts that stored on HostMonitor machine. This way you may create some scripts and then lauch script when necessary using single command.

I wouldn't expect a full RCC client, maybe something that just gets updates at a specified interval and alerts when there is an error.
