Oracle error #12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter...

Post by pverdin »

I'm trying to configure a test "check Oracle server", but after type server, username and password and clic on Test button, I get this message:
Oracle error #12705: ORA-12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified.
If I run "sqlplus" (a tool from oracle) from the server where HM is installed all works right, but from the test inside HM I get the error.
The software is installed on a W2K Server. I'm using HM 6.10, and the Oracle client is 6i version.
Somebody have an idea about this?

Thanks in advance.

Oracle client 6i is quite old client.
Could you check what exact value is assigned to the NLS_LANG environment variable? Try to remove this environment variable. It might help.

On the another hand, Oracle Client software requires that you give the Read & Execute Permission to the Oracle Home folder.
What account do you use to start HostMonitor? Does this account necessary rights on Oracle Home folder?
If it is not permissions issue, you should just copy oci.dll (supplied with Oracle client package) into HostMonitor's folder. It might help.

Finally, I reinstalled Oracle 6i, and it works. I erased the folder c:\winnt\system32\oracle and delete all tests inside Hostmonitor referred to "test oracle".
Thanks for the guidance.

and delete all tests inside Hostmonitor referred to "test oracle"
Probably this step was not necessary?
