Move HostMonitor from Win10 Prof to WinServer 2008 R2

Post by itc »

Hello,

I moved the hostmonitor program to a different server (from Win10 Prof to WinServer 2008 R2) but I don't get the alarm settings and email server settings copied over.
And I'm afraid that other settings were not copied over successfully too.

I tried the move with this how-to:

http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/vi ... php?t=1099

I've tried both options (Move and new-installation) and also copied all files from the C:\programdata\HostMonitor too.

Still the alarm settings are missing on the new server.

What am I missing?

Thx
I.

Have you copied ALL files (*.HML, *.LST, *.INI) before you start HostMonitor?
or you copied some files, start HostMonitor, close it, then copied other files?

What folder used for config files on new system?

I tried it again:

1. Installed Ver. 10.20 fresh on new system and did not start the program
2. copied files from the C:\Program Files (x86)\HostMonitor folder (2 *.lst and 2 *.ini files, no *.hml files)
3. copied all files/folders from C:\ProgramData\HostMonitor into the C:\Program Files (x86)\HostMonitor folder on the new system

Do I rather copy these files into the C:\ProgramData\HostMonitor on the new server as well?

Still email server settings and alarm settings not showing up on the new server.

Thx
I.

In most cases - yes. This is default location for configuration files.
It depends on what "Program data path" you have selected during installation.

On modern Windows its better do not use C:\Program Files.. path for config files .
Copy config files from correct path only (C:\ProgramData in your case, I think).
copied files from the C:\Program Files (x86)\HostMonitor folder (2 *.lst and 2 *.ini files, no *.hml files)
What exactly files have you found there?
If you have config files at C:\ProgramData, then in C:\Program Files you may see only "redistributive" files RMA-Win\rma.ini, RMA-Win\prbypass.lst

I figured it out. The trick was to copy the rest of the files into C:\ProgramData\HostMonitor.

The help link isn't that specific about it so maybe a good hint to add it in there.

Thanks again.

Normally you have only 1 folder with config files (and we don't know exact location of this folder because you set it during installation).

Why you had 2 LST files in different folder? Have no idea. May be somebody copied files manually, may be some old-testing installation that was not removed using uninstall procedure. An any case these files was not used by HostMonitor.
