Can U integrate RMAInstaller into RMAManager?

Post by Robert_in_MTL »

Can U integrate RMAInstaller into RMAManager to use this also with the GUI?

The main advantage beside the GUI instead of command line would be to push configs copied from an existing RMA in the list.

In the Agent(s) menu I would see it as a [* Push new Agent] selection.

I wouldn't mind having to connect to the server later to change the service startup credentials, unless this could be done at the same time (if the user exists on the distant server... )

Thank you for your time.

Not sure I understand advantages.. Neither RMA Installed nor RMA Manager can copy files to remote system, especially if remote system does not share disk resources. This means you should copy RMA files (including configuration rma.ini file) manually. If you copy rma.ini from some preconfigured system, you automatically "push configs copied from an existing RMA in the list".

Sorry if I was unclear...

Of course, that's why I am talking about RMAInstaller to be integrated in RMA Manager.

RMAInstaller pushes RMA on distant servers right? And it is command line right?
RMAInstaller.doc wrote:1) To install RMA service on remote system use following command line:
>RmaInstaller -install <target_system> <path_to_agent> [<account> [<password>]]

Here are some:
  • :D No more command line for this, simple GUI
:D Ability to manage and install RMA's from a single tool
:D Eventually: ability to push configs copied from an other managed RMA in the RMA Manager list
In RMA Manager there are already options to
  • Upgrade agent
    Upgrade configuration utility
    Terminate agent
So why no add [* Push new Agent] ? (using RMAInstaller within RMA Manager)

Maybe it's not a good Idea even if I think it is! lol
But it's a wish list forum thread after all!

Thanks for your time.

RMA Installer registers service. RMA files should be located on target system before you start RMA Installer.

I am afraid its impossible in general case.
Why people install RMA? Probably the most common reason - system/network is protected by firewall. How we can "push" RMA thru firewall to install it on system that does not share disk resources?? If host shares resources and system is available thru network then we don't need RMA, right?
So you have to "walk" to remote system and install RMA manually, then you will be able to access system and entire network from remote location.
