Exclude folders from dashboard

Post by Gerhard »

Let me start by saying that i am very impressed by hostmon and its templates and default settings with which you can do almost everything you want. However i am not trained in creating HTML pages, and therefore have some difficulties creating custom HTML reports.

What i need is this: I need a dashboard, but not with every folder from the HML list: I like to exclude some subfolders from the dashboard, and tried to create a custom HTML report based on the dashboard but so far did not succeed.

Can anyone help me with a custom dashboard or can you KS-soft guys implement the option where i can exclude a folder from the dashboard.

In short the reason: I have a operator team who uses the dashboard to signal problems with our servers and in the weekend and at night they will report problems to a standby team. The problem is i also like to have performance reports 24/7, but i do not want a standby team being called out of his bed for a peak in memory usage. For each domain i created folders named after the client or application an below a subfolder named performance. Performance tests are only for myself. Hope somebody can help me with this before the standby team is going to kill me...

I see your point. I would suggest you following solutions. Are there any performance tests in other subfolders? If not, you may exclude these performance tests from Dashboard report. You just should open Report manager, select appropriate dashboard profile and unmark performance tests in "Include following test methods" area. So, we managed to get report, without performance tests, but folder is still there. To get rid of empty folder, just enable "Skip empty folders" option. Option located in Options > Miscellaneous tab > Reports & Statistics group.

Does such solution suit your needs?

What about using linked tests ?
Create a new Folder which generates the Dashboard report.
Create a linked tests in that new folder for each test you want to see in the dashboard report.

Another idea:
KS-Soft wrote:We plan to implement variables like %::FolderName::GoodTests%, %::FolderName::BadTests%. Then "test depends on expression %::FolderName::BadTests%>0" option will do the trick.

- Create a new folder with tests for all the folders you want to monitor
- Create a dashboard report for that folder.

Problem: It's a plan, but maybe Alex can push that

Couple of days ago we were talking about similar configuration
http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/vi ... php?t=3450

In short - you should choose "Use folder's own report settings" option for the folder that you want to exclude from the report (option located in the Folder Properties dialog) and use one of the following methods to create report
- "Generate reports every N min" folder-level option (not "global" report generator that is available in the Options dialog)
- built-in Sheduler and "Generate reports" action with "Folder & subfolder with inherited settings" recursive mode

Alex
