PROBLEMS WITH SMTP TEST AND UNC TEST

Post by wathen »

There are two problems
1. I reinstalled my OS(win2000 server with sp4),the hostmonitor was running normally, but after I shutdowned some services that not used frequently(not included SMTP service), ALL SMTP tests show "no answer" status, I restarted some services which I shutdowned, but had no effect.
how can I do ?
2.When I execute UNC TEST (FOR DISK FREESPACES),some computers must be monitord through a computer installed RMA,or else they cannot reply normal result. Except using agent , other options are all same ,why?

"No answer" means HostMonitor did not receive connection. Probably it was dropped by OS or some antivirus/firewall software. Do you have any antivirus software installed on that system, firewall?

You may enable "Show errors description in "Reply" field when cannot access resource" option (Options > Miscellaneous > Settings For UNC tests) to see the exact error in Reply field. What error does HostMonitor show now?
I suppose, the account the HostMonitor is running under, does not have appropriate right to UNC share. Try to use Connect as option or you may use Connection Manager (Profiles > Connection Manager) to store account information necessary to perform connections to remote systems.

BTW. What version of HostMonitor do you use?

Probably it was dropped by OS or some antivirus/firewall software.
In fact ,before I changed services' status,it was running normally. I use MCAFEE 8 and no firewall in used, but I don't think that lead up to this problem, because it woked normarlly before I shutdown services.
Try to use Connect as option
Yes,you are right, that is my carelessness. I checked "Connect as option ", but the user or password is wrong. sorry to trouble you with this problem.
thank you.

McAfee has an SMTP check module and it could lead to such problems. I think you should try to adjust McAfee settings.
What exactly services have you stopped? HostMonitor depends on Event Log, Telephony nd RPC services.

So, what version of HostMonitor do you use?

May be this problem related to McAfee (you have stopped some necessary service)...
Have you tried to restart the system?

It is OK now!
Because I don't use the MCAFEE DFW, I donot realize that the virusscan also shutdown the SMTP port, although the windows SMTP service is on.
You are a seasoned "teacher". thank you very much!
