E-mail content

Post by hadassimeir »

I would like to request the possibility to check e-mail content of the latest e-mail in a mailbox then return an action upon variables accepted from the e-mail content such as subject, message body and else.

even to take action on the messages in the box such as deleting the mails

Email Content Test

Post by RRing »

Was there ever any progress on the ability to check email body and take action on result? If not, do you know of any exteranl programs that HostMonitor can execute to retrieve results from email?
Thanks

Sorry, we have a lot of tasks in the list. This task was not implemented yet.
Regarding external program... I think you can find application that checks e-mail, question is how such application can send results to HostMonitor?

If you explain your needs a little better, may be we find some workaround. Why do you need to send e-mails to HostMonitor? Do you want to manage HostMonitor remotely? Why you cannot use Telnet Service, Web Service or RCC?

Email Trap

Post by RRing »

Sorry,

I was not clear on the details. We have several applications that send email alerts to a consolidated exhange email box. The only monitoring the applications do is email. I would like Hostmonitor to read the exchange email box and look for contents of email bodies and alert. It would be nice to have an Outlook plug in, or something that would interface from outlook with HostMonitor. I have searched for Outlook utilities that would log to a Database, but after testing found most of these applications to be unreliable.
Thanks for any suggestions

Sounds more complicated than just check for last e-mail in the box. There could be several e-mail from different applications, HostMonitor should check each new e-mail for different "commands". Probably HostMonitor should process these messages like it processes NT Event Log records
On the other hand if structure of such e-mails is pretty simple, then some utility that dumps e-mail into text file + Text Log test method can do the trick.

BTW: May be your applications provide some other, more standard alert mechanism? Like syslog or snmp trap messages? Text log files? NT Event Log? Database?
