Monitor hosts without any failure indications

Post by fkemmerer »

I am currently evaluating HostMonitor for an application that requires me to determine the up/down status of a number of windows client PCs. At any given time, some will always be down. I'd like to have a subset of my monitor tests check these hosts via ping or some other mechanism but not have an red indications beyond the folder containing them - in particular I'd like these PCs to not generate any red status on the tray icon so I can disern real network problems beyond these machines. How can I do this?

Select "reverse alert" in the test. The test will become red when the pc comes 'UP'.

If some hosts ALWAYS down, what the reason to monitor them?
If normal status is "down" but sometimes host can be alive and this situation is not normal, Marcus is right - use "Reverse alert" option.

Monitoring Client PCs

Post by fkemmerer »

Alex,

The hosts that I want to monitor aren't always down. They May be up or down at a given time. I want to use Host Monitor to get a summary of this without necessarily turning the group or the overall status of the monitor "red".

You could create a custom html page without the pc's you don't want to be alarmed about. Instead of looking at HM's icon, you look at the webpage.
