hostmonitor service

Post by jamesturpin »

hi. I have recently installed hostmon 4.10 and i need to install host monitor as a service which i have done. however before installing it as a service all the tests were working happily, now when it runs as a service and thus starting host monitor with my testlist most of the tests have the unknown status. the configuration is exactly the same as when it was working before the only difference is this time its running as a service. I thought it may be the fact that the service is running as the local system account, so changed this to login using the domain administrator account but still has made no differnce? any ideas!?? Also when stopping the service it complains saying it can't save the hml file.

Quote from the manual:
Note #1: When HostMonitor starts as a service, it uses the system account (as all interactive services). But this account may not have all the necessary permissions, so some tests will not work correctly (UNC test, "disk free space" test for shared drives, "CPU Usage" test for remote machines, etc). If you need these tests, you will need to assign a special user account on the Service page in the Options dialog. In this case HostMonitor will impersonate the security context of the user.
Do not change the account using the system utility "Services". If you do so, HostMonitor may be unable to interact with the desktop.
I would recommend use local administrator account instead of domain administrator.

Alex
