error: 301 cannot retrieve information

Post by Arilexed »

We are using HostMonitor 5.38 on a Windows 2000 server SP4.

On a remote site we have two servers running Windows 2000 SP4 which we monitor. One has RMA 3.14 installed. On the other server we experiencing trouble monitoring the processes. We receive the error "error: 301 cannot retrieve information".

How can we fix this?

Regards,

Arend

Could you check following settings:
1) Remote Registry Service should be started on target system.
2) RPC service should be started as well
3) perfproc.dll should be enabled on remote system. Microsoft provides "Extensible Counter List" utility: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
This utility displays list of DLLs that are used to support Performance Counters, using the utility you may disable/enable specific DLLs.
4) What accounts have KEY_READ access to the following registry key on target system: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows_NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib. To view/change permissions to the registry key you can use the registry editor utility (Regedt32.exe)
5) Do you use this account to start RMA?

1) Remote Registry Service is started on target system.
2) RPC service is started as well
3) perfproc.dll is enabled on remote system.
4) Administrators Read/Full Control
Interactive Read
Server Operators Read
System Read/Full Control
5) We use LocalSystem to start RMA as a service.

The LocalSystem account of the RMA server does not have rights on the mentioned registrykey. Therefor I have changed the serviceaccount to Administrator (I know, you do not want to start services with the Adminstrator account bla bla bla). 8)

Anywayz, it works now. Thnx.

Correct. If you want to monitor Processes, CPU, Performance Counters on remote systems, start RMA under administrators account OR change access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows_NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib key
