Logging, with no alert?

Post by Guest »

We're using AHM to monitor event log login failiures - and as the machines are fairly busy web servers, we get dozens of alerts per day. I don't really want these results to vanish into the ether either though, so I was wondering about the possibility of turning off alerts for certain tests (i.e. they never report 'bad') but still logging the result?

Simply assign "Do nothing" alert profile to these tests.

Will this cause it to show up as 'ok' on the dashboard via the Web Service?

May be I did not understand your needs? Do you want to exclude some test items from the reports?

There are some things that we need a log of that aren't necessarily 'alerts' - the login failures are a good example of this, we get dozens per day, but it's only a concern if it spikes on a certain day (or similar).

AHM reports an error at one failure, which leads to a whole lot of alerts that shouldn't be alerts.

But, we are also using AHM as a central place to log data - it's easiest for us to just build scripts or whatever that will get logged into the same database in the same format.

So, what exactly the problem? I think you may use empty alert profile for such test items..

Well, the issue is that it shows up as red on the dashboard, when it's not really an alert - I'm looking for a way to make certain tests show always 'ok' or 'unknown' and never 'bad'.

I think you may use "Exclude from reports" property of the test.

Thanks Alex, where can I find that?

Another solution that may solve my problem is a method to only show something 'bad' on the dashboard if there are more then (say) 12 event log items in an hour (or something like that).

In the Test Properties dialog.

Don't see how it can be implemented
