OID Problem

Post by Percey »

I was running Hostmonitor 4.16 and created a test on a HP printer.
OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.4.2.1.1.3.2.0

This test returned the model of the printer (HP LaserJet 4050 Series ).
Now, after the update to Hostmonitor version 4.52 the same test returns:

%01%15%48%50%20%4C%61%73%65%72%4A%65%74%20%34%30%35%30%20%53%65%72%69%65%73%20

I tried to check the value by snmpview2.5 and it still returns the right value (HP LaserJet 4050 Series ).

The system is based on windows 2000 server english with SP4.

Its because of the following change:

Quote from "what's new":
SNMP test: now if OCTET STRING returned by SNMP agent contains non-printable characters, HostMonitor displays these characters using %XX format where "XX" is a hexadecimal code of a character (byte). This could be useful when you need to check MAC addresses or some other counters.
String returned by SNMP agent contains non printable chracters - (HP LaserJet 4050 Series

Solutions?
1) if you want to be alerted when your printer changed model (is this possible??!!), you may use "%01%15%48%50%20%4C%61%73%65%72%4A%65%74%20%34%30%35%30%20%53%65%72%69%65%73%20" as string to compare
2) if you are using this test for some report, .... probably you can use OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0 (sysDescr) instead?

BTW: What the reason to monitor static parameters? IMHO Printer cannot change model.

Looks like your router replies with some non-printable characters (#00..#31).

Alex,

This problem was not present in previous versions, and this check is pretty common in Cisco Routers.

Do you think it would be possible to change it back ?. Or else, find a solution for this problem ?

As I see router returns several lines separated by CR LF characters. That's why HosTMonitor converts complette reply string into binary data.
H'm... I think we can change that and do not convert string->data when it contains normal characters and CR LF.
Ok, in next version

Ok, update available at www.ks-soft.net/download/hm529b.zip
I would recommend to install version 5.28 Beta before applying this update.

H'm, it should not be displayed in binary format, unless...
Test is performed by HostMonitor or RMA?

Alex.

This is what I get when testing it from Hostmonitor:

Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software %0D%0AIOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-I-M), Version 12.2(15)T5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)%0D%0ATAC Support: http://www.cisco.com/tac%0D%0ACopyright (c) 1986-2003 by cisco Systems, Inc.%0D%0ACompiled Thu 12-Jun-03 05:25 by eaarmas

When we run it from RMA we get pure binary.

Thanks.
