Oracle DLL issues

Post by BrianAlstom »

Since installing 5.3 (and subsequently the 5.34 update) we've been having issues with Oracle odbc tests. A few times a week we will get the following errors:

First test :
Access violation at address 600C018C in module 'orageneric8.dll'. Read of address 00000098

Second test:
Access violation at address 60B11F39 in module 'oran8.dll'. Write of address 00000022

Subsequent tests yield a timeout error.

Is this an error with the version of the Oracle client? Or am I missing something else.

What version of HostMonitor you have used before? I checked code - we did not make any changes in database test methods for a long time.
May be you have upgraded Oracle client library as well?

Previous Version was 3.4 or so I believe. I know it was 3.x. We didn't touch the oracle DLL (but thats what I'm upgrading today).

Same problem

Post by dlbroussard »

I am experiencing the same problem.
It occurred yesterday after the hostmonitor service died while I was working on the console (I have hm and RMA on the same box because of credentials required to run certain tests).
I was adding a new test and selected the help button and then HM croaked.
My ODBC test quit working but came back after re-starting the rma process running the test. This morning at 4:34am the odbc quit working again and would not re-attach.
I get the following errors:

RMA: 301 - [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name

RMA: Cannot read data
We have not changed our Oracle client or ODBC connection.
We did upgrade from 5.34 to 5.38 recently

Any Ideas?

We did not touch anything related to ODBC/Oracle tests in version 5.38, I just checked that.
H'm, may be someone changed configuration? E.g. renamed TNS alias (yes, I know 4:34am is not common maintenance time...).
If you restart agent, problem still occurs? What if you restart server?

BTW BrianAlstom was going to update oracle client and he did not post new message. Probably upgrade did help?
