Setting up an EM1 Temperature Monitor

Post by Netconex »

I just installed a new Sensatronics EM1 temperature monitor with a single probe attached. The probe detects both temperature and relative humidity in our data center.

I am running the newest version of HM, version 5.30, but have a couple of questions about using it with the probe.

1. I setup a new event to monitor this probe using the built-in temperature monitor feature. HM is properly getting the temperature of the data center and reporting it. However, I've noticed that HM is NOT keeping an averge value for the collected values. Is this a bug or do I have something misconfigured?

2. How do I monitor the relative humidity of the data center using the same alerting method as the temperature monitor? In other words, I can create two SNMP events to alert me on high and low RH readings, but I'd rather have 1 event like the temperature monitor.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

It was a bug. Problem fixed. Update available at www.ks-soft.net/download/hm531.zip

Sorry, its impossible in current version. You have to use 2 test items.

Thank you for the update! I just installed the patch and it is now tracking the avg/min/max values.

However, the values returned from the temperature probe are measured in tenths of a degree. In the next release of the software would it be possible to show the avg/min/max values with tenths also?

"Average" counter displays values with tenths. Min and Max displays integer values only. H'm, is this really important? If we change type of this counters, it will be changed for all test methods. I am not sure its a good idea...

I wouldn't say that it is important to have but it would be "nice".

Most of the monitoring that we do is via integer values so I understand why you have HM setup that way.

The reason I'd like the more specific values is that if the temperature probe reports 19.5 degrees it will be stored in HM as a minimum value of 20. Likewise 20.4 will be stored as 20 degrees. Although the actual temperature did vary by almost 1 full degree, HM is not reporting the fluctuations in the min/max values.

I doubt this will be a huge problem, but I thought I mention it.
