Unable to open Log in Log Analyzer

Post by colstripcom »

I am unable to open our current month log file, I get an I/O error 32. The log file is about 2.5 gigs. The reason why the log file is so large because We need to keep record of every test and its results. This is for SLA. Thoughts?

I/O error 32 means "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".
Any other program uses this log file (except HostMonitor)?

No other file uses it... besides the web service I guess.. Is it possible because the file is so big it can not be opened?

Web Service does not use log files. Only 2 applications from Advanced Host Monitor package use log files: HostMonitor and Log Analyzer.
HostMonitor does not lock log file for reading, so it should not be a problem. Log Analyzer does not lock log file at all.
I though it could be some 3rd party application... Could you try to restart server?

Following the server reboot, I go into HM right click a test and go to Statistics. The Log Analyzer opens up and the I/O error 32 message appears.

Other thing I notice is in HM I have set to show in the quick log the results of everytest. When I try to scroll down the list it only shows about 10 tests then the bottom of HM there is a message that says:

Error: Cannot open log file "E:\program Files\HostMonitor4\Logs\032005-log.htm"

Current size of log file is 2.1gb

The machine I am using is a Dual 500 PIII with 512RAM

Can you open this file by any other program? Text editor? Web browser?
Could you check file system for errors?

Look in your temp directory...

Post by Thomas »

Delete everything in your C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp directory. - the directory may be hidden so make sure you can view hidden files (tools|folder options|view).

Do that, then try to read the log again.

Thanks,
Thomas
