Not getting True CPU readings
Not getting True CPU readings
I have HM 4.3 installed on a W2K SP4 Server and RMA 1.11 installed on a NT4 SP6 and W2K SP4 Servers. I am monitoring CPU usage from the RMA on the servers. My problem is what is being reported is not what I am seeing on the servers. For instance I have the test running and it will report back to me 99% CPU Usage. Only problem is I am sitting in front of the screen with task manager open and don't see any changes in CPU at all. Most of the time it is running at 2% but host monitor is reporting it at 90 or above. Now if I do not use RMA and use HM to perform this test it reports what I am seeing on the screen. Any ideas why the 2 different values. If I run both tests at the same time I have seen RMA reply back at 101% and HM reply back at 23% .
H'm... its strange. Do you use "CPU Usage" test method or "Performance Counter" test method?
CPU Usage test method was implemented in RMA and in HostMonitor using exactly the same code.
Actually Performance Counter test method uses the same code in both applications as well but with slightly different settings. Thats why Performance Counter test could return wrong values in RMA version 1.10. But it was fixed in version 1.11. Are you sure version 1.11 is running on the system?

cpu error
I have double checked the versions and yes they are 1.1. Also they are definately RMA and HM. I have not tried the performance test yet. I will take screen shots of the settings to show you how they are setup you can view them at http://www.mmcomputers.com/hm/index.htm
Truth to say I cannot explain this
And I cannot reproduce this problem as well.
I checked code - to perform CPU Usage test HostMonitor and RMA uses exactly the same library with the same settings. Of course RMA loads CPU when decodes request from HostMonitor and encodes reply, but RMA measures CPU load between decoding/encoding.
The only assumtion I can make - some 3rd party software (like firewall or antivirus) loads system when it receives TCP/IP connection. But it should have effect in many other cases as well... I don't know
