Monitor a secure site

Post by Peteravr »

I get "No Answer" when I try to test https://www.trustsuppliers. I can pull up the page by typing the URL in a browser with no problems. I have selected to accept all certificates, even invalid ones. I use HM 3.71. Any suggestions?

"www.trustsuppliers" doesn't look like correct domain name. Probably must be "www.trustsuppliers.COM" or "www.trustsuppliers.ORG", or ...?
www.trustsuppliers.COM is correct name but I cannot receive answer from the server neither using HostMonitor or Internet Explorer.

HostMonitor 3.71 cannot monitor this site because certificate issued by "not trusted" company.
HostMonitor 4.07 has new option "HTTPS: Ignore unknown certificate authority problems" and can monitor this server.

Isn't it possible to just once import the certificate with Internet Explorer to your machine?

I found that you have to install a personal information exchange (.pfx) file.
This file should be available a the https site you are trying to monitor
When you install this file in the trusted root information authority it will be listed and you will never again get the message whether or not you want to install the certificate.

Can we create this kind of file (.pfx) for a specific domain?

First, I found that the certificate does not have to be a pfx file. It can have an other extension.
We build our own certificate for our windows 2000 domain by installing certificate server on a domain controller.
There are a couple of things you should keep in mind.
once you installed certificate server and generate your own certificate you cannot rename the domain controller anymore.
Make sure that the certificate gets backupped.

My suggestion is that you read about certificate server before installing.

The second option is to buy a official certificate for your domain.

check out www.instantssl.com - $49 for a 128 bit ssl cert - also have free 30 day trial cert

using one of their trial certs now - its a root CA so you will not get any error warnings when viewing your site
