server functionality

Post by chri »

Hi, we are transferring our systems to the cloud, but in the cloud the server names are a nightmare. Earlier I knew which server name has which function. Now we are mainly interested in the function of a server.

So the question is, is there a possibility to resolve anyhow the functionality of a server. Somthing like a hosts file with descriptions, servername A has this functionality; servername B has this functionality

at the end i would something like this
"Free space: %path% on %functionality%"

thanks

Sorry, not sure I understand the question and how it relates to HostMonitor.
If you want to add some comments, you may use Folder or Test properties (there are Comments and Variables tabs in Folder Properties dialog).
Then comments and variables can be be used as parameters of the tests and actions.

Hello Alex,

hmm, how should i describe it.
a relationship between the ip adress, Hostname and the functionality.
Example when i create a ping test, i will enter the ip address as destination.
Hostmonitor should now aware or can it anyhow resolve and should now output in the test Name field.
TestName= %functionality% on %hostname% - %IpAdressA%
TestName= FunctonA on HostA - IpAdressA

This is mainly because i would replicate a lot of tests, and i do no want to change in every test the functionality.

thanks

You know servers functionality.
But HostMonitor don't have such information.
If you know functionality, you may provide such data using test name or test comment field or folder comments.
This is mainly because i would replicate a lot of tests, and i do no want to change in every test the functionality
So you have 100 servers with the same functionality and you need to create similar set of tests for such servers?
Then you may create template (set of tests) for such servers, easy to replicate.
