Hostmonitor on Windows 2012
Hostmonitor on Windows 2012
Hello, does anybody know if Hostmonitor will work on a Windows 2012 Server? It monitors them great, but I want to know if I can sit the application on a 2012 Server.

We tested HostMonitor on Windows Server 2012/R2, most functions work well, however there are some bugs in Windows API, mostly related to event logs and ICMP protocol.
Officially we do not support Windows Server 2012.
Please check system requirements at: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/index-sysreq.htm

Many customers already use Windows 2012 and we are using such systems for testing as well but we don't like this system because we cannot find solution for some problems.
E.g.
If application connects to WMI service with requiredArchitecture parameter = TRUE, this affects OTHER (3rd party) applications running on the system (when such applications make WMI requests). We see this issue on Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012.
While older systems (like Windows Server 2008) work correctly and connections made by HostMonitor do not make any problems for other applications
If system sends ICMP packets (ping) on regular basis, ping response time may degrade.
As we know such problem on Windows Server 2008 can be caused by Window Auto-Tuning feature. You may disable this option (netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled) and system will work correctly.
But we don't know how to fix similar problem on Windows Server 2012
Event Log API does not work reliable in multithreaded applications.
You may use "non-simultaneously test execution" folder level option but this option will delay tests if you have a lot of NT Event Log test items.

@KS-Soft, do you have Microsoft support tickets in to fix these issues? What is your long term plan?
I'm thinking the next Windows server version might not be that far away, so fixing Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 soon would be very helpful.
We own HostMonitor and are getting ready to buy another copy, but I had wished to put it on 2012.
thank you!

Not recently. Long time ago we tried to work with Microsoft, e.g. pdh.dll worked very badly in multithreaded applications and it took years to fix the problems.I was specifically wondering if you personally filed support tickets with Microsoft.
mgmtapi.dll caused memory leak, Microsoft fixed this problem in Windows 2000 but then bug came back in Windows Server 2003 (or Windows 2003 SP1).
So we just trying to rewrite our code without using some API, when possible...
Yes, we are testing HostMonitor on Windows 10, so far I can say - it works.win10 has a previow already. Have you tried it?
If we find some problems, we will try to find solution in next version of HostMonitor (version 10 as well)

Advanced Host Monitor v10 schedule / fix?
hi! I notice that v9.8 beta says it supports windows server 2012, but that's only the VM version, and only as a target of monitoring, right? (We are putting Hostmonitor onto a VM.)
Is there any schedule for v10 which you said will add Windows Server 2010 support?
ty!

I assume you've read improvements related to Hyper-V test methods.
Not exactly.and only as a target of monitoring, right?
You may check physical and virtual Windows 2012/R2 as target system.
HostMonitor (9.80 Beta, 9.90) will also work on Windows 2012/R2 system, however some Windows API works unstable on this OS.
We made improvements to workaround these problems, however we cannot fix Windows API. That's why we cannot recommend this OS for HostMonitor.

We did not say that.which you said will add Windows Server 2010 support?
Windows Server 2010? Do you mean Windows Server 2012?
As I said before, HostMonitor supports Windows Server 2012, however we do not recommend it for now.
