Auditing Tool for Reports

Post by xcentric »

When switching from HM8 to HM9, a lot of the paths had to change in the ini files because of the directory change. Easy enough. However, the paths in the lst files of course cannot be changed unless using the gui.

This is why the auditing tool is useful. It lets you know what paths are broken in the tests and actions.

I noticed that all the reports had to also be changed because of the custom headers and footers. It would be nice if the auditing tool could include reports when checking for problems in folder paths.

I suppose this could have been avoided by maintaining the version 8 folder name. I have reinstalled and took out the version number in the install path. No more conflicts ever.

Yes, we have some plans for Auditing Tool.

On the other hand, normally you don't need to do anything. Just start installation program and click [Next] button several times.
Installation program checks for old copy of HostMonitor and sets Update/Repair mode when finds existing instance of HostMonitor; also it sets path to existing HostMonitor folder so you don't need to modify ANYTHING at all.

Good thinking ahead. I was not aware of that behavior.

Since I changed the program folder to just "HostMonitor", will this create any future issues?

I think this already created issues. Now you have to check path to common log, backup log, private log files, path to reports, external headers, footers, external scripts, applications...
Most of these problems easy to detect because such "external" tests will fail and most of problems will be detected by Auditing Tools but something can be missed.

All these paths you have mentioned have been changed to reflect the new path. Will this interfere with upgrades moving forward?

Not sure I understand your question.
If you change path for next update again, then you will have to correct everything again.
If you will perform "normal" update, this will be done in a minute.

Just adding relevant info.

How we can move preconfigured HostMonitor to another server?
