HostMonitor with Multiple NICs

Post by hauf9301 »

Hello,

We are installing a new HostMonitor system and are running into a problem. The server that HostMonitor runs on has two NICs. NIC1 is 10.x.x.x and NIC2 is 192.x.x.x

The majority of our monitoring is done through NIC1 but NIC2 has several network devices that need to be monitored via SNMP and PING. When I setup a PING test for 192.168.1.5 I receive No answer. When I run Wireshark I see no attempt made by HostMonitor to ping 192.168.1.5, I can ping 192.168.1.5 from windows and I can see the ping in Wireshark.

Is HostMonitor able to monitor multiple interfaces? We have no computers or servers on that 192.x.x.x network, what are our options?

Thanks!

HostMonitor uses Windows API, this means route of IP packets depends on routing table specified on your system, just like any other Windows application.
When I run Wireshark I see no attempt made by HostMonitor to ping 192.168.1.5, I can ping 192.168.1.5 from windows and I can see the ping in Wireshark
That's strange.
What Windows do you use? Service Pack?
How your routing table looks like?

HostMonitor is running on Windows Server 2003 x86 with Service Pack 2

There is a route for 192.168.0.0 255.255.252.0

I am able to PING the gateway for that network 192.168.1.1 from host monitor (not actually a gateway just a device that we need everything on that network to go to if there is no other route.)

I can still ping 192.168.1.5 from Windows but not HostMonitor. This issue is perplexing but at least that proves HostMonitor will work will multiple interfaces. Thank you for the fast response. Still unsure of why I see no attempt made by HostMonitor to ping 192.168.1.5 in Wireshark.

I will continue to work on this

Well this is embarrassing:

I realize now that when creating new tests HostMonitor uses the last RMA you selected. The test used a RMA in a entirely different network. That explains why I didn't see ICMP packets in Wireshark. Thank you for your response!
