Connection Error (RMA Manager) when setting up an active RMA

Post by johnv »

I am trying to setup an active RMA agent onto a Windows 2003 server. I have the Agent identification and hostmon parameters set correct and matching with our hostmon central server. When I run the RMA in application mode it just comes up with the error message: Connection Error (RMA manger). I've tried restarting the Hostmon service and the server Hostmon lives on but still nothing. I have ESET running on that server with the RMA but had made an exception for the RMA. Not sure if this made any difference but it still didn't work after that so maybe there is more settings that need to be changed on Eset to allow it to work.

This had occured with some other RMA agents on other client sites but after changing the password a few times to something simple seemed to make it work...but this didn't work all the time so maybe changing the password didn't make any difference at all. ANYWAY!....

Hostmon ver: 8.86
RMA ver: 4.15

Any ideas or assistance would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Connection Error (RMA Manager) when setting up an active RMA

Post by KS-Soft Europe »

Message Connection Error (RMA manager) means active RMA agent can't connect to RMA manager application (please note HostMonitor and RMA manager use different TCP ports)
If you are not using RMA manager, just disable "Allow remote management" option, located on active RMA Setup application. RMA manager should be started, and RMA manager TCP port should be opened to receive incomming connection on system, where RMA manager is running.

Please check the manual or visit our web site for more information at:

Firstly, thanks for the fast response. Okay so I'm using the RMA Manager. I have many other RMA agents at other client sites and I've set this latest agent up exactly the same as all the rest but its not working. Any other ideas as to what could be happening?

Connection Error (RMA Manager) when setting up an active RMA

Please, check active RMA Successful/Failure audit logs (default log names are: loga_bad.txt and loga_ok.txt). Is there any other error messages?
Could you check Hosts and Ports for HostMonitor and RMA manager
connections, using Active RMA Setup, one more time?
If these parameters are correct, that means something blocks traffic between active RMA and RMA manager.
Do you have installed any other Antivirus monitors, personal firewall, content monitoring software, non standard winsock components ?
Could you try to disable ESET and start Active RMA ?

I found out what was holding it back...well it was a couple things. Firstly, our clients firewall was blocking the ports hostmon uses. I had opened up ports for hostmon but I must not have done it right. Woops.

Once those ports opened up, I was faced with another error. Which was Connection error: Invalid password(?) (RMA Manager). The password was definately correct, and I found out there was another RMA agent hidden away and still running on another server that was still trying to connect to the RMA Manager.

Thanks for your help. And I hope this helps others.
