Sorry, I do not understand the problem and how this problem is related to us.
What external program crashes your system?
What system (OS) do you use that cannot handle 3 processes?

wscript error

Post by bducharme »

When we test a url, we launch a wscript (.vbs) with the "run external program". But instead of launching only one wscript it launch 3 wscript. One on the three start correctly and close normally but the 2 others become "Zombie" process attached to Hostmon.exe. After 3 hours we have more than 5000 "zombie" process witch slow down the server a lot and we have to reboot.

It's not a problem that is related to the server because I tried on three other machines and they all have the same issue.

On our troubleshooting, we used 2 windows 2003 sp2 with the latests patches (security patch for november.) On the two other machines it's windows XP sp3.

Thanks

HostMonitor cannot do that by itself. We are sure because
1) We just have tested "External" test method and "Execute external program" action on several systems. Everything works fine
2) Nobody had such problem in 9 years
3) We just checked the code and do not see any mistake - HostMonitor starts 1 process

What version of HostMonitor do you use?
If you are sure, this problem is not caused by some virus or antivirus software, may we see your script and test (or action) settings?

We just find out that the problem was caused by the interaction between HostMonitor and McAfee VirusScan version 8.7 patch2.
When it's running with McAfee 8.5 everything is ok. We were updated to version 8.7 yesterday.
We are using version 8.26 on windows 2003 server sp2.

Aha, I knew it should be related to some 3rd party software 8)
Bugs in antivirus software leads to various problems pretty often :-(

Thank you for information.
