Less frequent pausing during trial?

Post by meppyman »

I understand that the trial pauses as a means to remind people that they are trailing the software. For me however it is happening so often it is getting in the way of me testing HM and understanding how it works properly.

For example I run it as a service on a server, then run WatchDog and RCC on a workstation. Watchdog has a green tick all the time, but when I open RCC it reports that monitoring is paused and that I should log on to the console. It does this several times a day and overnight I have no chance of testing some afterhours monitoring as it pauses and has to be restarted in the morning.

However I don't seem to be able to see that it is paused, except for the warning when I start RCC. Watchdog looks the same, and all my tests are OK and the console looks no different with no START button showing, when I look at it from RCC or the console. Should it not say PAUSED in big letters somewhere when I go in so I know I have to click something to resume? When I log on to the console I have a dialog box reminding me to buy but then the monitoring seems to be running, but maybe it isn't and I am missing something?

How can I know from looking at the console if it is paused or not?
When I manually pause I see a Start button, but it's not obvious just looking at the tests that they are all paused... but Watchdog does indicate the monitoring is paused.

I understand the need to have the pauses in the trial, but maybe reduce the frequency until after the 30 days so that we can get a good feel for it's reliability and 24/7 monitoring. Maybe just pause once during the day for the first two weeks or something???

Anyway great product, just finishing some testing and then figuring out my budget.

Normally HostMonitor should pause monitoring just 2-3 times per week for 1st two weeks (once in 2-3 days). But there was mistake in the code that could increase frequency in some cases :(
Problem was fixed in version 8.24 but if you have used old evaluation version before then update/repair installation mode will not help to fix it. You have to reinstall software completely :(

Regarding WatchDog: it does not tell you anything about pause that was caused by evaluation mode for purpose. Its not a mistake.

OK I do not recall ever installing HM before, and it pauses every couple of hours and have only had it installed for 2 weeks at the most.

I am sold on HM but I am wanting to work out how well the NT Event Log testing works as I don't yet fully understand its caveats and conditions that make it work and the pauses are stopping me from testing it overnight. Guess I will have to wait to learn that part until after I pay the fee or ask some questions about it in the forum, thanks.
