HM inaccessible when explorer.exe crashes
I have been running HM 6.54 (just downloaded 7.22c) on Windows XP (sp2). The app is started either from the start group or manually. When minimized, it "was" placed in the system tray.
When you select "Icon in the System Tray" and then minimize, the HostMon is no longer listed on the Application tab of taskman.exe. When unselected, HostMon is listed on the Application tab. Hostmon.exe is always listed on the Processes tab.
I have been testing another shareware app that has over the last two weeks caused explorer.exe to crash three times. The devs seem eager to solve the issues, so I am not giving up on it just yet.
When the explorer shell crashes, it auto restarts. The system tray is repopulated with most of the icons that were there previously. Missing is the Host Monitor icon. The process is definately running in taskman.exe. But there is no way to access the application. At this point, I have two options. 1. "End Process" and restart it. 2. Log out and back in again.
You can simulate this by ending the the explorer.exe process in taskman.exe.
As an additional note. Even if HostMon is displayed when you kill explorer.exe, then minimize it, the system tray icon remains gone.
Details:
Windows XP (sp2)
Host Monitor v6.54
Program started from Startup Group or manually
Options checked, "Icon in the System Tray", "Animate tray icon when working", "Change icon when a host dies".
It is a short term problem, and not directly yours. But I thought I would pass along the info.
HM inaccessible when explorer.exe crashes
This is correct behavior. When you select "Icon in the System Tray" and then minimize, the HostMon is no longer listed on the Application tab of taskman.exe. When unselected, HostMon is listed on the Application tab. Hostmon.exe is always listed on the Processes tab.
You may disable "Icon is system tray" option located on Preferences tab in the Options dialog. In such case HostMonitor will be listed as application (Windows Task Manager).
