problems with version 6.10 of HostMon.exe
problems with version 6.10 of HostMon.exe
I am trying to use HostMonitor version 6.10 but I am having problems. The first machine I tried it on had the following configuration:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional x64 Edition
Version 2003
Service Pack 1
Intel Pentium 4 CPU
2.80 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
The program installed and seemed to run OK. However the next morning I was presented with the following error message:
Faulting application hostmon.exe version 0.0.0.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.1830, fault address 0x0002228c.
Since that didn't work I installed on the following:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium M
1.40 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
Again, the program installed, started and ran fine. Unfortunately, I came in the next morning to find that my computer had locked up.
Any help would be appreciated.

Microsoft has not release Service Pack 2 for the x64 edition of Windows XP yet. I ran windows update and installed all recommended patches.
The x64 machine has the following software installed:
Advanced Monitor 6
UltraVNC 1.0.1
IP Monitor (removed)
XGI Volari Z7 (-)
This machine also runs a couple of programs that I wrote to interact with our email system. They scan for messages, insert our legal footer, copy/move files, send SMTP mail, etc. These programs will run for several weeks without error then crash. That is my reason for using this software. I am attempting to monitor the network connections/servers that my programs use. BTW, the HostMon.exe/Kernel32 crash did not affect my programs.
The second system I described does have SP2 installed. Microsoft updates have been installed through May 2006. Since this is my personal workstation a lot of other software is installed including a virus scanner. I am not however running a firewall. Do you recommend disabling the virus scanner? Are there particular programs that Advanced Monitor is incompatible with?

RightMicrosoft has not release Service Pack 2 for the x64 edition of Windows XP yet.

H'm.. its hard to say what is causing this problem. Do you use ODBC Logging or ODBC Query test method? If yes, what ODBC driver do you use?
Also, can you check resource usage on the system? You may use standard Windows Task Manager to check Handles, GDI and USER objects. E.g. Windows 2000 works unstable when total handles usage is about 12,000. Windows XP can handle a little more objects.
Norton Antivirus Monitor, McAfee and NOD32 may lead to various problems, especially they lead to problems if you are using SNMP test method and/or "Send mail" action. But as far as I know none of these programs completelly lock up the system. So may be there is some other reason of the problemDo you recommend disabling the virus scanner? I haven't installed any ODBC drivers on the x64 system. I am using the following:
UNC (availability/free space)
Count Files
Drive Free Space
HTTP test
Ping
Process
I have two more errors to report:
Faulting application hostmon.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.
and
Faulting application hostmon.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.1830, fault address 0x0002228c.
I have been watching Task Manager. With everything running it is showing the following:
Handles: 5688
Threads: 320
Processes: 24
I'll watch and see if things move much.
HostMon.exe was able to run on my workstation overnight. I forgot to shutdown the virus scanner and other programs...???

I just noticed something. The error always occurs immediately after I close the "nag" screen. I had thought that I just needed to click through the nag to get to the error message, but according to the application error log that is the exact moment that the error occurs.
Has that crazy graphic been tested on 64 bit windows???

I disabled all of the tests and left hostmon.exe running over night. This morning the nag screen was up but it was really slow. The little dude was barely typing. I scrolled through text in the dialog and the error popped up. This time it the error didn't show up in the application log and the program didn't close. I checked Task Manager and things looked comparable to the screen shot I took before. Strange.

Testing has been completed, but we have not been able to reproduce such serious problems on our test system.mshimonek wrote:Has the testing on Windows XP Professional x64 been completed?
Could you send all *.lst, *hml, *.ini files to support@ks-soft.net?mshimonek wrote:I would really like to use this software. Is there anything else I can try?

The same problem..
Hi!
I have the same problem with HM v. 6.10 on Windowds 2003 (fresh installed system, updated with all newest patches, dedicated only to HM without any additional applications installed/running).
I have to mension that I had the same situation with all versions 5.92+ running on Windows 2000: I stopped receiving any messages, then in the morning, when I logged in and moved my cursor over HM icon in system tray it dissapeared, then in event log the message:
HM has lost his reliability...
What can I do to solve it?
