All questions related to installations, configurations and maintenance of Advanced Host Monitor (including additional tools such as RMA for Windows, RMA Manager, Web Servie, RCC).
I'm using Textlog for monitoring backup events in two w2000 wrksrt and two Winxppro workstations. NTeventlog test works fine.
But I have found that if the "backup support" is not online (network share lost...) errors are not written in NTlog but are written only in backupxx.log file in doc/settings etc... in the local disk.
Ntbackup keeps 10 logs; how can I found an error in 10 files?
I also wrote 10 tests backup01.log, backup02.log ... looking for a specific string and so on but it don't works. Error is written in backupxx.log but not found from HM.
Then I tried "You may use wildcards in the name of the file (e.g. c:\logs\2004*.log), in this case 1st matched file will be checked"
But what meanings 1st matched file will be checked
wehere am I wrong? (other than english language )
Any idea to monitor this stupid system that writes logs here and there?
Problem found : textlog looks in a log ...where text lines are in append.
My logs are every day new and there is not an evolution with text appended.
I tried "compare files" with two files one is backupxx.log other is a template file containing text to find.
It's not a beautiful solution because the alert stay on until I delete the file containing bad text...

Correct
What kind of test can I use?
H'm.. If backup create log files only in case of error, you could use "File/Folder Availability" or "Count Files" test method.
But I think backup creates such log files every time its started (even if no error occurs). It means the only test you can use is "Compare Files" test method.

Backup is started once a day? So, you may setup HostMonitor to perform the test once a day.
