Inherit Log Settings

Post by terje »

It would be good if each test had a logging option called "INHERIT". If the option was ticked for a given test then the COMMON and PRIVATE log settings used were those set on a tab of the folder that the test was within.

Do you mean you need posibility to specify log files for Folders?

Obviously folders do not produce log files. However the tests within the folder do produce log files. And it would be good if you just set the folder setting for all the tests at the folder level and then as new tests were created they would all log to a single set of log files as defined on the folder.

Mostly I log each test once to a common central log and again to a private log that is associated with each folder.

We thought about folder level log but we think it should replace common log for all test items in that folders. You need to replace private log? But private log can be specified without any additional options, you may select all tests from the folder and specify log file at once

I can't do a batch change to multiple tests in the way that you suggest if I am work from RCC. Otherwise it might be okay.

Still I think I would prefer to be able to set both the common and private log at the folder level and by default all new tests would just inherit both settings.

Either way its good to know that you are working on some refinements. Its a great product even if I need the script kiddies to tie a few loose ends together sometimes.

Why not? RCC 1.08 allows to change common test properties for a set of test items
