Sysvol testing

Post by rasqual »

This one's tough.

Does anyone have some techniques, methods, scripts etc. they've developed and would be willing to share?

We had corruption on all 21 DCs last Friday, and had to do an authoritative restore. Time-consuming. We could have gone home a bit sooner if we'd had a couple hours' earlier warning. ;-)

Dittos for replication in general, whether FRS or DFS. Argh -- such much to test, so little time . . .

A followup to my comment (included in the link above):
There are specific Event Log entries as well as repadmin/dcdiag results to look for: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... 27057.aspx In addition to the Event Log tests some of the other suggestions mentioned in that link, both for identifying and fixing the problems, could be scripted.

NOTE: You might want to review some of the other Troubleshooting articles on M$TechNet, especially AD related DNS Troubleshooting. Note, of course, their preference for MOM in their discussions

Please post any other articles here that you find helpful. I'm hoping to build a library of 'standard' tests for specific environments - AD, MSSQL, IIS, Sharepoint, etc. If we share templates we can spend more time dealing with/fixing these environments than building test sets.

Here is a good scripts collection from MS and these scripts can be adjusted to use with HostMonitor: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/script ... x?mfr=true Most of the scripts are written for Powershell. Hm. Probably, we can add possibility to run PowerShell scripts with Hostmonitor, like ActiveScripts or something like that...

Thanks. Will review this and more, and report back. Sometime. Good grief, about the time I get a bit of time to work this stuff, the tide comes in again and other things drag me off screaming. :-?
