Hello,
We have 710 remote monitoring agents active. I wanted to upgrade the software from 5.70 to the newest version, and the option is there to Upgrade when running the installation executable. If problems arise, how easy would it be for me to revert back to the old version? Would I have to uninstall the newer version and re-install the old version? Is 5.70 even available on your web site?
Thanks!
Upgrading from 5.70 to newest version
1) Please make sure your license allows update. Normally this can be checked by HostMonitor (menu Help->Update check) but your version is too old. You may send request to sales@ks-soft.net
2) In 99.9% update procedure finishes without any problems but we did not test such kind of update (version 5.70 to version 7.50) so we recommend to backup your files. You may simply copy entire HostMonitor's folder with subfolders. Make sure you make backup copy of HML file with tests (in case you store HML file in different folder).
Actually when new version of HostMonitor finds old configuration files, it creates backup copy before make any modifications (HostMonitor uses ~HM extension for backuped HML files and ~LS extension for backuped LST files). Its just more easy to work with full backup copy
3) Start installation program, choose "Update/Repair" installation mode. Setup program will overwrite all executable modules of previously installed HostMonitor, help files, etc; all user settings will remain intact.
4) Then you will need to update 710 remote monitoring agents. You may use RMA Manager for this purpose
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/rma- ... ow_upgrade
NOTE:
You have so many RMA, may be its better to wait a little... Version 7.50 provides a lot of new features (over 300 new options) however I would recommend do not make update right now. Looks like current version of the agent has small problem (in your case it can become a big problem). RMA 3.8x works perfectly but when you will need to update it to newer version, it may show error message on shutdown. It may not restart automatically, you will need to login to remote system and click Ok button. Looks like this error appears when RMA started as service but we did not find exactly reason of the problem. Its not persistent... We will fix it in next version of the software.

Alex
