Do not change webinterface colors when test becomes BAD

Post by Gerhard »

Dear Hostmon Guys,

I have been working on this issue:

We have a operating team which stares at the webinterface all day and night and they came with the request to either exclude some performance counters or some folders from the webinterface, or arrange that these tests/folders do not change the color in the webinterface.

Reason: We have a lot of performance tests to read cpu and memory usage, and even though i have very low tresholds the memory usage is BAD a lot (below 50 MB), but this does not mean is't bad it's is just being used. We use these tests to create performance reports, but we never act on it. I will read all BAD performance tests every month directly from the database. It would be very handy to have the entire performance folder not change colors on the webinterface when status changes or exclude folders/tests from showing up in the webinterface. i need the perfomance test te generate reports and analyse trends in perfomance but i do not need to see these tests and especially the operating team should not see these tests (they do not respond in a timely manner when a critucal test reaully becomes BAD, just an other red box).

I read a lot about this issue, but didn't find a solution. i think a lot of people will have tests that can peform in the background (only data is needed).

I see several possible solutions. As you know, HostMonitor supports different permissions for each user and since version 6 HostMonitor provides a "home folder" option that can be specified for each operator. So, you may create an account for the operating team and adjust you folder structure in a way, that operation team has access to the specific folder (with subfolders of course). When you login using just created account into WebInterface, your operationg team will see only the allowed folders/tests.

Another solution is to use "Views" feature. "Views" were introduced in version 6.70 and allows you to specify rules that tell HostMonitor which test items should be displayed by the view. http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... #ViewsList
"WebService" supports the "Views" as well.
