I have seen several posts about looking at the logs to show the SMTP transactions, to try to troubleshoot e-mail sending problems... but I can't seem to find which log that is. Can someone push me in the right direction? Where is the log of SMTP transactions kept?
Thanks in advance,
- Scott
Troubleshooting e-mail alert problem
"System" log file can be specified on System Log page in the Options dialog.
If you are using old version of HostMonitor (6.10 or older), this log file is specified on Advanced Logs page in the Options dialog.
Also, every time HostMonitor sends e-mail, it shows popup windows with detailed information about HostMonitor<->MailServer communication (unless you have disabled "Show status window when sending mail" option)

Thanks Alex! We are using 6.80. The pop up window works great, but right now I am troubleshooting a problem where a user says he didn't get the alert. I wanted to look at a log that may show that the message was actually sent and delivered to one of the two configured SMTP servers. It would be nice to know which server it used (primary or backup) and the exact date/time that the transaction occurred, and whether it was successful or not.
I am not seeing anything in the System log as it relates to SMTP, but I noticed in the Options > Log Settings > System Log, that I do NOT have the checkbox "Record info about successful actions". I will check that box to see what happens....
Thanks!

Log file provides such informationIt would be nice to know which server it used (primary or backup) and the exact date/time that the transaction occurred, and whether it was successful or not.
If "Record info about failed actions" option was enabled and log does not show any records, this means action was successfully excuted or alert condition was not reached. For further investigation you need to use "successful" logging as well.I am not seeing anything in the System log as it relates to SMTP, but I noticed in the Options > Log Settings > System Log, that I do NOT have the checkbox "Record info about successful actions".
