Alerts based on folder

Post by invisik »

Hi,

Did some searching but didn't find anything yet.

I have my remote sites grouped into folders--seems to make sense there. I would like to have an e-mail alert when any test at a site shows bad. However, I don't want to have to go into each test and setup e-mail notification, I want to set it at the folder level.

Also, some sites have local admins that I have alerts also sent to. If that local admin changes I don't want to go through every test for that site to change the e-mail address.

Any suggestions on how to do this?

Thanks.

PS: Just bought an enterprise license! Waiting impatiently for the key to arrive. :) Thanks for a great product!

I think, you may use "Advanced mode" action ( http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... ncedaction ) and expression with "Folder-related macro variables", like: %FolderCurrent_BadTests%

You may use Macro variables to customize "Actions" and "Mail Profiles". http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... .htm#macro
For instance, for each test, you should specify certain email address (or more than one destination addresses separating with a semicolon) into Comment input box. Then you should create an action profile with "Send E-mail action" and specify %CommentLine1% variable into "To" input box of Action Properties window. So, now you may assign this single action profile to any test, and HostMonitor will send e-mails to the recipient, which is specified within "Comment" field of the test.
If all alerts in certain folder should be sent with one certain subject, you may specify the text for subject into Folder Comment input box and use %FCommentLine% variable in "Action Propertis" window.

You may select set of tests, click Edit button and change/setup alert profile for all selected test items at once.
If that local admin changes I don't want to go through every test for that site to change the e-mail address
1) The same action profile can be used for thousands of tests. So, you don't need to modify 1000 test items, you may change single alert profile.
2) If for some reason you must use several similar alert profiles (e.g. some actions are common, some are different), you may use global macro variables to specify mail lists and other common parameters: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... m#udvmacro

Hi!

I think the selection of the tests and editing them all at once is the best, simple solution for me for now. I will review the more complicated one as time permits.

Thanks again!
