Setting: AHM 6.10 running as service on W2003 on VMWare ESX
Host monitor service terminates by itself (more than once)
AHM-System log shows no entries
W2003-System log shows event 7034
W2003-Application log shows event 1516
W2003-Security log shows event 552, 540, 576 and 538
(all events have identical time stamps)
Any idea?
Thomas

Re: Host Monitor Service terminates by itself
Have you installed SP1 on Windows 2003 server? VMWare? We have not tested HostMonitor under VmWare yet...thomasschmeidl wrote:Setting: AHM 6.10 running as service on W2003 on VMWare ESX
Could you provide exact "Source" for these EventIds (using Event Viewer)?thomasschmeidl wrote: W2003-Application log shows event 1516

Look like security issue. What account have you specified to start service (Options > Service)?

Yes we have SP1 installed.
No, we do not have any server with problems due to VMWare
Yes, the event-IDs were retrieved using the event viewer. If necessary, I can provide the text, but it is German.
The service uses the domain admin account
Startup delay is 0 min
When service is being stopped, changes are to be saved in hml file

We know severeal reasons:
1) HostMonitor is running on Windows 2003 and you are using SNMP Get or Traffic Monitor test method. Error is caused by mgmtapi.dll, Microsoft offer patch: http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/vi ... php?t=1301
2) You have installed Norton Antivirus or McAfee monitoring module. There is some error in these monitors that leads application to crahs. Scanner modules works fine
3) If you are using ODBC Logging or ODBC Query test, some ODBC driver may crash application.
4) It could be resource allocation error. Could you check resource usage for each process? How many Handles, GDI and User objects is used by HostMonitor? You may use standard Windows Task Manager to check Handles, GDI and USER objects. What the total resource usage on your system?

Max

Hello Max and thank you for your proposals!
Yes, we use SNMP Get. We have W2003 SP1. Shall I install the patch anyway?
No, we do not use McAfee or Norton. We use KAspersky, but we will switch it off to see, weather it helps.
Yes, we use ODBC query test and we will switch it off for testing.
Host Monitor terminated again this morning and was restarted. At the moment the hostmon.exe uses 316 handles, 14 threads, 171 user objects and 276 GDI objects. The system has 768M physical memory. of which 417M are used. hostmon.exe uses 17M.

Looks fine. What about other processes? What the total handle, USER and GDI object usage?
