Test Exchange email server

Post by AntonyP »

Is there a way for HM to test that an Exchange 2003 server is working properly? I mean that it can send and receive emails

Antony,

if you got used to describe precisely what you need you probably could be helped.
Are you aware how many ways there are to send and receive emails on Ex2k3? I seriously doubt that - you wouldn't write like that if you knew.

You're right, Antony.

one doesn't need to know how to do anything as long as one finds another guy who does the job.

So here is my wish to KS: Would you please make HostMon to tell me whenever something important in my network goes wrong? I don't know what but you'll figure it out

Rainer

P.S. There are at least 5 different ways to send or receive mail in Ex2k3. Besides one had to monitor a buch of critical other things like queues, services etc. Get M$ MOM if you don't have and don't want to build up the know how yourself.

Are you an official supporter of KS-Soft, or not?

If not, don't bother comment my questions. I don't need your "smart" and cheap comments. And i 'd like to keep my manners and not start offending you the same way to did in the last 2 posts, "mate".

Alex, please cleanup this thread, and if my question is not specific enough, i'd like you to tell me.

On the one hand its easy to setup TCP, SMTP or POP3 test methods to check that mail server started and responds to requests.
To check some specific parameters of the server you may use Performance Counter test method.
On the other hand, theoretically its possible that server does respond to TCP requests but does not forward mails to destination server. The only check that can verify such situation - send e-mail to some mail box and try to receive it from the server after a while. HostMonitor cannot perform such test. Yet

I am sorry you feel offended by clear conversation. I won't reply further. I am seriously and genuinely sorry to have answered you at any time at all. Mostly sorry for myself to have wasted my time on you.
A forum is BTW usually for both support by the vendor and exchanging tips and tricks between the users. But I am sorry I did not get that you only wanted replies from official supporters that do not dare to tell you that you are sucking up (their) resources nonpaid for your interests.

Just for clearance: I am no supporter but long time user of HostMon and I am monitoring some Exchange servers with lots of parameters. But your chance is gone.

Good luck anyway,

Rainer

P.S. Why didn't you complain about this? It was inofficial help as well.

Come on, guys. Stop fighting. This forum is not for "official" support, official support works at support@ks-soft.net. Forum is for everyone. However its for everyone to support each other, not fight.

Alex
