Replicate tests between systems

Post by vidyagana »

Hi Alex,

Now since we have successfully used hostmonitor on one of our systems we want to configure similar systems with almost same kinds of tests. For this, I saved the testlist from one system and copied it to another system and imported it on the target system after installing hostmonitor. But this is just copying the testlist and is not bringing alert profiles, user defined schedules and all that. Is there anything that has to be done for this?

Please let me know.

Thanks.

You should copy all *.LST and *.INI files as well

Hi Alex,

As you suggested, I copied all the *.lst and *.ini files from one system to another to replicate the tests. But it is not getting reflected in the Hostmonitor application. Do I have to apply something or do something else. For eg., I created a new schedule in one system for some tests called "DailySchedule" and I copied the testfile.hml, all the *.lst and *.ini files. But when I opened up HostMonitor window in the other system and went to schedule I could not see this new schedule. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Vidya.

Sorry, I don't know what you did wrong.
schedule.lst file contains schedule profiles.
If you want to copy schedules, terminate HostMonitor on target system, copy the file, start HostMonitor.
If you want to copy tests and profiles, you should copy all files at once!! If you copy tests, start HostMonitor, stop HostMonitor and then copy profiles, links between test items and profiles will be lost. I mean you will see test items and you will see profiles, but schedule and action profies will not be assigned to the tests.

Also, I want to know will replicator be useful for this purpose.

Thanks,

Replicator is useful when you have setup some set of tests to monitor several servers and you want to create similar checks to monitor 100 other servers.
