|
|
When running HM as a service, I can't page. I keep getting "can't open com port". If I stop the service and run the program, it works. I have changed the Com port setting in the [Misc] section and the com port error stops but then it just intializes the modem about 5 times and quits.
I found this post but from two years ago that talked about the same problem:
http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1563&highlight=com
I am moving HM to a different server with an internal USR 56 modem. The old server has some generic external modem that works fine when HM is run as a server. But, I don't really want external modems hanging off my servers anymore.
Is there an update to this problem? |

An update...I tried a different internal modem and same result. I was looking in the Windows system event log and found two interesting events when HM tried to page:
The Telephony service was successfully sent a start control.
The Telephony service entered the running state.
I looked on my current HM server and it doesn't have any entries like this when paging. |

These messages appear every time HostMonitor tries to send message?
Looks like system (modem driver?) reboots TAPI service all the time...
Google.com found several posts about similar problem but did not find solution
I did not find any information about such problem on Microsoft.com...
What system do you use?

I am running Windows 2003. Looks like TAPI went from version 3.0 to 3.1. Would this affect your program? |

3.1 supports API provided by 3.0...
Also it works in application mode...
Do you see any error messages from HostMonitor in NT Event Log? Any error messages in system log (specified on Advenced Logging page in the Options dialog)?
Regards

When I shut down the HM service, it logged 4 events:
1. The Advanced Host Monitor service was successfully sent a stop control.
2. The Advanced Host Monitor service entered the stopped state.
3. The Telephony service was successfully sent a start control.
4. The Telephony service entered the running state.
I then ran it in the application mode and all the pages went out and some of them generated the Telephony event and some didn't. So, those errors might not point to the cause of the problem.
I checked the HM log and it has the following messages when run as a service:
10/25/2004 9:51:28 AM Error: Cannot send message to pager 9,5555555. Error Opening COM port (TAPI10000)
I originally also thought this was related to internal modems but I have the external modem that was working on my other server on the new one and it's not working either. Only major difference is the old is Win2000 and the new is Win2003. |

Sorry for delay - our testing Windows 2003 system didn't boot. Now it is working.
Tested HostMonitor - TAPI works fine when HostMonitor uses "loacal system" account, but it doesn't work when HostMonitor uses administrator's account!
Strange... will look for solution...

I have some more information about this problem but do not have solution yet.
lineInitialize function (TAPI) fails when HostMonitor uses any other than local system account. Did not find any explanation in Microsoft manuals
Probably we will need to implement some workaround, e.g. use external program to page...

Did not find any explanation in MS manuals
But I found workaround - start paging in separate thread under "local system" account
Update available at www.ks-soft.net/download/hm475.zip

I went to upgrade to 4.80 from 4.62 and it says my license isn't valid for the upgrade. I was reading through the upgrade notes and 4.80 also had the fix for this problem.
I didn't see anything about a new license needed to go to 4.80. |

I didn't realize it had expired. I had to dig through old e-mails to find out when I renewed it last. Is there a way to tell in Host Monitor?
I will work on getting it renewed. |
