Trying to send email(500 ESocketException: Error 10053..

Post by fizbin »

I am trying to send email notification of an alarm and get the following error.

(500 ESocketException: Error 10053 in function Connect
Connection aborted)

We use a Lotus Notes Server as the mail server (I hate notes, i'm new to this job and am working on changing over to Exchange).

I have tried different logins and no luck.

TCP port 25 (SMTP) is opened on server? No firewalls between HostMonitor and Lotus?

I thought of that and there does seem to be an issue.

I can NOT telnet to port 25 on the internal server nor can I telnet on port 25 to an external alternate server. I will explore the firewall issue further if you think this is a wise course.

It could be firewall issue or may be problem relates to Norton Antivirus. Do you have NAV installed on HostMonitor's system?
NAV related problem described at http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/vi ... php?t=1616

Nope on Norton, I use McAfee deployed by EPO.
I will turn McAfee off and see if that resolves as well.

Your software has worked at every company I have worked for. Unfortunatily for me, that has been many. Good for you is that each place I go to I buy another full copy of your software.

I have not had this at any of the other places I have worked.

You may buy personal license for HostMonitor and take it when you move from one job to another...

Does that mean that I have to deinstall it when I leave a job? If so I can't do that, They use the tool after I leave.

If you have McAfee Version 8, on access scan running, you will receive the following error when trying to send an alarm via email.
[10/7/2004 8:48:09 AM] Open Error #500 (500 ESocketException: Error 10053 in function Connect
Connection aborted)
You must disable on access scanning to prevent this error.
I have been unable to prevent this error from what little testing I have tried, Excluding the hostmonitor4 dir does not work either.

I found it!
Uncheck "prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail ~ Ports 25" under the Port Blocking tab of the Access Protection Properties page.

This solved the problem.

Yes, single license allows you to install software on single system (but you can move it from one system to another)
Uncheck "prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail ~ Ports 25" under the Port Blocking tab of the Access Protection Properties page.
Great

From memory it just put the error up in the email notification box, but did not crash the app.

Disable MAV and try your test.... that will knock out McAfee as a factor in your problem at least.

few questions

Post by m0n »

Hey, since you are running simular things like me

Lotus notes, mcafee,...

I was wondering how do you check if sending & receiving email works at ur company ? you check that with ahm ? or other program ? can you send an email with ahm and see if it arrives ? etc... how do you check lotus notes servers with ahm ?

Actually everything reffering to ahm & lotus notes getting those 2 to work together,

Thx,

What are you trying to check on your domino server?
I check harddrive space of drive that holds the data store, and the domino services. An alarm is sent via email to my lotus desktop as well as my ATT cell phone if there is critical alarm. I have a second simple smtp server (PC) setup as a fail over. Needless to say if the mail server is broke it wont send you an email.

BTW I just got this job and have CERTS in Exchange so needless to say I hate this stupid domino server and have almost no idea how it works. There is no chance in me converting the entire company to Exchange either. Very Sad :(

I have the same problem, they will change to exchange in like 2-3 years.

I have to setup AHM to check all SLA's (service level agreements)

and in those SLA's there is also external & internal mail that needs to work.
But I was maybe thinking of sending an email and looking if it returns, guess thats the best check if it actually works ?
