Unable to connect to machine

Post by sysdeath »

I am having trouble getting HM to communicate to some of my serves. HM comes back with a “unable to connect to machine” error when adding additional test. I have other test running to the target machine (RMA) that I have imported. It’s not a DNS/WINS issue because I am able to map a drive to the target server. Any ideas?

- HostMonitor version?
- Windows version (on local and remote system)?
- what kind of test does not work (Process? Service? Performance Counter)?

The HM server is running on W2K (patches up-to-date) with HM 4.60. The target servers are all running W2K (patches up-to-date). I am trying to do Performance Counter tests.

Thanks!

HostMonitor should be started under administrator's account in order to perform Performance Counter test. What account do you use?

I am using an administrator accont. I created a special account just for HostMonitor.

Remote Registry service started on remote system? Both systems in the same domain?
I have other test running to the target machine (RMA) that I have imported.
Does it mean Performance Counter test is performed by RMA? So, HostMonitor (installed on system A) checks system C using RMA installed on system B? What account has been used to start RMA?

Sorry for the delay in response. Yes the service is running on both ends. Plus it successfully testing other items on the server, which is most confusing. The servers are located in a different domain, but i have setup the neccessary security for hostmonitor to reachout and test those boxes.

But you said "I have other test running to the target machine (RMA) that I have imported". Do you use RMA to perform tests or not?
Does HostMonitor (installed on system A) check system C using RMA installed on system B? What account has been used to start RMA?
Plus it successfully testing other items on the server, which is most confusing.
"other items"? What test methods work correctly?
