Multiple SMTP server

Post by wachaca »

Hello,
I have 3 dedicated lines and user HM to monitor them all.
The problem is that when Line A goes down. I can't reach the SMTP Server A to send the email.
It would be great if I could configure multiple SMTP servers and then be able to choose which one to use.

Cheers,
Wachaca

You can configure primary and backup SMTP servers on Mailer page in the Options dialog. HostMonitor automatically switches to backup server when primary mail server is unavailable

hm, maybe a good idea to expand the Options-Mailer settings page..

instead of 2 fixed entry's, you could add a table where you can add multiple servers...
For the SMTP alert, one could check which server(s) need to be used to send the alert...

H'm... But usually most of tests check anything but not your mail servers.
E.g. your have 100 tests that monitor your routers, SQL and Web servers and you have 2-6 tests that monitors your mail server. Typical configuration? Option to choose mail server for the alert will be useful for these 2-6 tests (while current auto detect mode works correctly as well), but this option will make a lot of problems for rest of tests (100 tests). Because how do you know what mail server should be used?

How about a "custom" SMTP server setting under Action profiles. If custom settings don't exist than default mailser settings take over.
