Problem with performance counters

Post by ironmike »

I finally have the RMA-WIN agent (v1.07) set up at our remote site. The monitor computer here is running Hostmonitor 4.10. All the computers at the remote site are running Windows 2000 Advanced Server (SP4). The monitor computer is running Windows 2003 Enterprise server.

My problem is this: When using the agent to monitor the PhysicalDisk performance object, I do not get reliable results. I have counters for (PhysicalDisk) bytes/sec on several systems. More often than not, these tests return 0 (these are very, very busy drives, so there is no way that they should have a transfer rate of 0 in the middle of the day). If I manually refresh the test, maybe one time out of ten, I will get a non-zero answer. If I switch to Hostmonitor as the "Test by", I get the numbers that I expect.

The same behavior seems to be happening on the Processor Object as well (reporting zero percent utilization, even though the machine is very busy).

More information:
The RWA-WIN and hostmonitor are talking through a VPN tunnel to get the information from the agent to hostmonitor...

I have a few other tests that running against the servers, and the non-perfmon tests look "normal" to me.

Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting? Or is this a known issue?
