SNMP Unknown

Post by scheppe »

Hi Guys,

i have problems with some snmp trap alarms.

i got often unkown alarms, but i don't know why. behind there is a web-IO with a lot of other alarms.

after 1min test changes to good again.

the problem is that there is no problem and my colleagues get error messages.

How can i configure my alarm that they will only be informed when status is Bad?

My Version is newest 10.14

I think this is Windows error message, not HostMonitor.
Strange, we never seen such error for SNMP Trap test...
When there are some Windows API errors (e.g. HostMonitor cannot open port for listening) then you will see Unknown status until you fix the problem - HostMonitor will not be able to receive SNMP Trap messages and will not change status Ok->Bad->Ok.

What Windows do you use? Service Pack? Antivirus monitor or some personal firewall?

May be we misunderstood you?
May be you are using "SNMP Trap" action assigned to some test item?
Then you should tell us about this test item. What exactly test method returns Unknown status?
How can i configure my alarm that they will only be informed when status is Bad?
You may change test properties or action properties.
E.g.
option #1: disable "Treat Unknown status as Bad" test property; enable "Action depends on bad one" option for "good" actions (if you are using such actions for this test item)

option #2: use "advanced mode" action with expression like ("%Status%"=="Bad") or ("%Status%"=="No answer")
depends on what exactly status should trigger the action

If alert profile assigned to many tests, then I would recommend 1st option - this way you may ignore Unknown status just for some specific items.

Please check the manual for details
