Hi all,
is there a difference between %host% and %hostaddr% ?
What I'm really looking for is this:
Assumed I have a PING test with ADDRESS set to WWW.GMX.DE
%host% and %hostaddr% both show WWW.GMX.DE
Is there a varibale showing the ip-address of that Name ?
And the other way round:
Assumed I have a PING test with ADDRESS set to 2.16.89.234
%host% and %hostaddr% both show 2.16.89.234
Is there a varibale showing the Hostname of that ip-address ?
Thanks

Hostname vs IP-address
If we are talking about variables specified as ACTION parameter, then there is no "official" %host% variable (it works but its not documented so you should use %hostaddr%)is there a difference between %host% and %hostaddr% ?
No. If you specified host using name, variable will return name.Is there a varibale showing the ip-address of that Name ?

So we are not talking about actions, we are talking about templates?
Yes, here you can use both variables.

Yes, here you can use both variables.
And change test name automatically when HostMonitor or RMA detects remote host that changed IP address? Not sure this is good ideaWhat about an enhancement ?
Also giving the DNS-Name / IP-address translation

I think at least in the Comment field it does make sense to be able to resolve the hostname to an ip addressKS-Soft wrote:So we are not talking about actions, we are talking about templates?
