Blacklisting

Post by aaronmagic »

Hi,

I am a network admin for an Exchange hosting firm. We love Host Monitor to monitor all of our internal devices. It would be helpful if we can have Host Monitor monitor our Exchange IPs if they are blacklisted on any RBL listings like SORBS, Backscatterer, etc. Please advise if this feature is available or can be worked into the application.

Thanks

You may use URL Request or HTTP test method for that purpose.
E.g. If you want to check if your IP is in Backscatterer listing, you may setup HTTP test with settings like the following:
URL: http://www.backscatterer.org/index.php
Request: POST
Post data: target=test&ip=68.68.22.181
Check contents: should contain: NOT LISTED

Please check the manual or visit our web site for more information at:
URL request test: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... ts.htm#url
HTTP test: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... s.htm#http

Thank you for the heads up!

I performed what you asked, and this is what I got. I performed what you requested exactly.

It appears to be set correctly. However my IP I set is 196.32.153.26 which is in-fact on Backscatterer. When HostMonitor is setup for this IP, it just shows as "Host is alive".

How can I tell if my IP is listed on RBL's like Backscatterer via HostMonitor?

I apologize if I am new to HostMonitor. I am still learning :)

Thank you

We setup 2 tests (URL and HTTP) using your IP address(196.32.153.26).
Both tests work fine, HostMonitor sets "Bad content" status.

May be there is some corporate proxy that intercepts connection and sends some old page from cache? HostMonitor uses "no-cache" flags for HTTP requests but...
What version of HostMonitor do you use?
Could you try to setup URL test using the same options?

I still do not think I am setting this up correctly. I set it up and it shows "Bad Content" which is good. However I then setup a second IP I know is NOT listed on Backscatterer (64.70.67.188), and that also is showing "Bad Content". Can you guys email me the tests you have set-up that are working and I can edit the IP's? I want to determine if I am not setting it up correctly or if there is a company firewall that is altering the test results as suggested in your previous post.

I am using HostMonitor 8.86

We sent you test settings by e-mail.

Also, we tested your 2nd IP, test works fine for a while then reported "Bad content" then "No answer" status. And we cannot reach www.backscatterer.org anymore, server does not answer.
Will check it tomorrow, may be this server just does not work properly..

Thank you for the email. I did receive the test. I will test it when I get into work. I did notice that backscatterer was not working anymore.

Ideally, what I would like to do is have a site such as:

http://www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

on the list. This type of tool not only references Backscatter, but scans against several RBL listings. Please let me know if this is available.

This server uses some scripts to generate reply. HostMonitor does not process web scripts so it will be hard to get information, may be impossible
