2008 service interaction

Post by avery_larry »

Is there anything new on the ability to interact with HM running as a service on 2008 R2 server? I can't say I understand programming, but there are many other programs (vmware tools, McAfee) that will have a system tray icon for interaction with a running service -- even in an RDP (non-admin) session. 2008 has been around for a few years now.

So I guess my big request -- assuming that there aren't any changes -- is that you provide 1 copy of RCC for free (at LEAST with the pro version). $100 (or the Enterprise version) seems like too much money for what basically amounts to a workaround for desktop interaction in 2008 and/or RDP sessions.

Don't get me wrong -- I would strongly prefer the cute little system tray icon so I can tell at a glance (from an RDP session on my 2008 R2 server) that HM is running and whether or not everything is OK.

Service itself cannot interact with desktop on Windows Vista+.
That's how Windows works and we cannot do anything about it.
Other software must use some client running in application mode, just like our RCC does.

We do not charge anything for 1 RCC connection from local system on Windows Vista+. You may use RCC locally even if you ordered the cheapest Lite license.

Excellent! I hadn't figured out that there's a local RCC allowed.
