TextLog: Generate alert if string is not found

Post by jfreu »

Hello,

a question regarding the TextLog-test:
We have a system which generates every hour a new logfile - i love the date macros ;) Is ist possible that a textlog-test goes bad when a string is not found within a period of time (e.g. the string is 'TA=1' and the test should go bad if the string is not found within 30 minutes).

Regards,

I think you may setup test to check for string every 30 min and use "Reverse alert" option to set Ok status when string is present

Hi Alex,

i have already tried this. the problem is, that the string mustn't be in the logfile when the test runs for the first time - only when the string is still not found with the second test, the test should go bad and an alarm should be triggered.

Thanks,

Then may be you should use Compare Files test method and start test when specified string is recorded in the file? E.g. if the application should record string between 12:00 and 12:30, start test at 12:35.

Schedules allow you to start test at specific time

You may define schedules with up-to-the-minute precision. To use this feature click on "Tune" button or select "Edit intervals" item from popup menu. In a popup window appearing, you will be able to check and modify list of time intervals.

You could run the test every 20 minutes and set the action to happen on 2 bad results.

cheers, Paul
