folder variables not working

Post by adam_morris »

I cannot get folder variables to work.

I am trying initially with a basic variable - fvar_ipaddress in the folder variable field and then using %fvar_ipaddress% in a ping test. I just get unknown host returned. I know the IP address is correct. I have also tried every iteration of ipaddress (with %, without % etc)

It looks like the test does not recognise the variable.

This is such a basic problem but I cannot see what I am doing wrong.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry, I cannot reproduce the problem. Could you please, send screen-shot of "Variables" tab of the "Folder Properties" dialog to support@ks-soft.net?
Are you trying to setup "Ping" test in the same folder, where variable is defined?

Could you provide more information, please?
- What version of HostMonitor do you use?
- What Windows do you use? Service Pack?
- Do you see any error messages in System Log (file is specified in menu "Options" -> "System Log"). You may access the System Log using menu "View" - > "System Log".

Regards,
Max

adam_morris,
I make extensive use of folder level variables. I set up a test using your description (substituting 127.0.0.1 for the variable value - simple test, huh). Everything worked as expected when using %fvar_ipaddress% in the test. :-?
You know Alex is going to ask - What version of AHM are you using? :)

Working

Would you believe it - its now working. I am sure I tried this already (fvar_ipaddress in folder and %fvar_ipaddress% in test) - but maybe I had a typo!

Many thanks anyway.

Hey, it happens to the best of us! :)
Since you are a 'veteran' of this product, would you be willing to participate in a little 'brain dump' activity?
I'm trying to collect some 'best in class' templates for monitoring different device types. I've already got a couple of participants and would love to see what you can contribute. The goal is to, first, pass these amongst ourselves for review and later post them for the world to see.
If you're interested, please email me at the link below.

I'm trying to get Alex to provide a 'full service' forum (incl. chat, wiki, file sharing, etc.) to help facillitate this kind of activity. Maybe I'll do it. But until then I'd rather do this 'off-line' than cluttering up the existing forums.
