Text Log display found line greyed out?

Post by pwtaw71 »

Hello all,

W2K3E, HostMonitor V. 7.78, Test Method = text log, look for string = Maintenance, warn of all new events, display, found line selection box is greyed out?

Attempting to scrape the contents of a text file for "maintenance" mode and display in reply field in view (who and why) reasons for the maintenance mode. Then forward this as a variable in a e-mail alert as well.

I have been unable to get this to work, any ideas?

Thanks, Todd W...

This field always greyed out. In order to change display mode you should click button located on right side of the field.

I have done that and tried all of the options in there, but never get data returned in the reply field in the test or the view. Is there some other comment field or variable I should be looking at rather than reply?

What is the status of the test? Ok? or Bad?
If test status is Ok, you should not see anything in Reply field because Ok status means specified event not found.
Please note: HostMonitor checks for NEW records, records that were added since last check.

I am monitoring the change of the file, actually from a missing file to a newly created file with one line in it. I should then see a reply for one duration of the test at minimum, I would expect that anyways. It appears not to work.

Could you please answer to my previous questions?
What is the status of the test? Ok? or Bad? or may be Unknown?

Sorry,
It is currently ok, however when I have had it in a bad state, there was still nothing in the reply field. Should I be looking somewhere other than reply status?

Could you please export test settings into text file and send to us (support@ks-soft.net) together with file that you monitor?

I see several mistakes
1) You are using "Reverse alert" option. This means HostMonitor should set "Bad" status when there is no event detected.
2) You are using display mode "offset" instead of "found line"
3) If you want to set "Normal" status when target file is not exist, then you are using wrong expression. It should look like ('%SuggestedStatus%'=='Unknown')

There appears to be a timing or loading issue here. After about 40 attempts to get this working, and having finally got it working a couple of times. But not consistantly. It only has appeared about 2% of the time with no changes to the tests themselfs. The reply seems to only show up initially, but only on rare occasions, when dropping a system into maintenance mode. The auditing tool shows green and that it is able to perform all of the tests. Not sure at this point of a resolution for this.

Sorry, I do not understand your explanation.
When I setup test using your settings, it did not work. I fixed errors in settings and everything works just fine.
Could you please send the file that you are testing? May be there is no CRLF symbols after string that you are looking for?

Alex
