Templates, Macros in "Private Log" and "Relat

Post by batcheson »

The newest version of HostMonitor introduced the concept of “Templates” through the use of Variables. I think this is a great idea since I have several thousand tests setup that are continuously being modified / added. I started to make templates using this new feature; however, I am experiencing difficulties with a couple fields in the template…

These fields are the “Use Private Log” field where you name the Log File and the “Related URL” field name.

All of my tests have a private log setup (Hence the name “Private Log”) but I cannot find a way to Auto Populate a Unique name for each test when a template is copied into a folder. Before using templates, I used a Private Log name based on the name of the server I was running the test against. I was hoping to use a macro variable such as %Host% or %Folder% in the name of the Private Log to generate a unique name based off the Folder name just as you can name the test based off the folder name using the macro %Folder%. When I put something like C:\Hostmonitor\%Folder%.html in the Field for Private Log I do not get the results I was hoping for. Likewise, I have the same problem defining the URL name in the “Related URL” field on the test.

Without being able to generate a Unique Name for the “Private Log” and “Related URL” for each test, the Nice Template feature has become unusable since I cannot log Test results to a private log for each individual test.

Is it possible to use Macro / Variables in these fields and if so what is the proper syntax? Thank you

Please check the following part of the manual to see where variables can be used: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... #templates

We plan to add more options in future versions, HostMonitor 7.7x is just first version of templates.
So, if you have any wishes, sugestions, welcome to "Whish List" forum
